Hello

December 24th, 2009 § 0

I’m shyly stepping in here to introduce myself… I have to say I’m rather intimidated — not just by the goal but also by the fact that I don’t actually “know” anyone here. I heard about this challenge on Facebook through Jenni and Alissa (whose blogs I’ve been following) and was intrigued, so I registered a username, not realizing that I’d then committed to being a “participant”! It sounds like a lot of fun, though, and I’d certainly love to cross off more books on my to-read list. I also like the idea of a community of writerly/bookish folk, and I hope you all don’t mind my joining you.

So, I’m Julie, and I live in DC with my husband. I write creative nonfiction — essays, travel narratives, and a book-length memoir that I’ve been working on. I also freelance as an editor for various publishers and nonprofits. I’m on Goodreads and Twitter, and also have a website. I’m also trying to keep a blog in the new year, and I’ve listed my books to read there.

I’m leaving for a long trip to Southeast Asia tomorrow and am bringing with me:
Seeds of Contemplation – Thomas Merton
The Great Railway Bazaar – Paul Theroux
All the Wrong Places – James Fenton
Marco Polo Didn’t Go There – Rolf Potts
Fall on Your Knees – Ann-Marie Macdonald
Middlesex – Jeffrey Eugenides
Kitchen Confidential – Anthony Bourdain

Looking forward to reading together!
