First Book Finished, Reviewed

January 5th, 2010 § 0

I just finished my first book of the challenge, Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout.  I wouldn’t have picked it, but my good lady-friends in the Bluestocking Bookclub did. It’s good to read outside my obvious interests.

I wouldn’t recommend this book for everyone, really, just based on taste. It’s well written, descriptive and deep so it was pleasant to read.  It is mostly about old people and the sad things that happen everyday, to everyone. My teeny review of it is here, if you’re interested: http://msfuji.blogspot.com/2010/01/micro-book-report-1-of-52.html

A lot of the subject matter was depressing, but revealing and really got me thinking (I get sick of the phrase “thought provoking”) about my life, and the people in it.

People who should read this book: Post-modern realists seeking genuineness  and people who like movies like It’s Complicated and As Good As It Gets (without the silliness)

People who shouldn’t: Those who do not enjoy reading much, get bored easily, or get paranoid & insecure when reading about fictional  extra-marital affairs

51 books left.
