Race Matters by Cornell West- Very good. Very easy and quick read.

6a Teach Your Chicken to Fly Training Manual by Trevor Weekes- I include this with another because it is short and the next one was started before the end of last year. This book is short but has great diagrams and is HILARIOUS. I adopted it from my boss’s giveaways. He’s a scientist and some promotional company had also written a letter that was stuck in there trying to persuade him to stop doing the type of research he does and teach a chicken to fly. Hilarious.

6b-Ministries of Mercy by Tim Keller- Read with a group to meet weekly and discuss chapters. Great was to think about mercy and gives a great scope and framework. Inspired good discussion. Good read as long as folks do not believe you have to go “exactly” by the book’s recommendations. Should provoke you to think about your personal ways of extending and giving mercy and motivate you and the church to do more where you are.

7 The Soloist by Steve Lopez- Had seen the movie so I kept picturing it while reading. I thought this is one of the more accurate book to movie stories. Sad but great story. I’m a sucker for memoirs and biographies if there’s a teensy bit of challenge or something to overcome instead of just fact telling about someone’s life.

8 Democracy Matters by Cornell West- Similar to Race Matters…obviously with the same author. I did not agree with some points, but he did a great job of explaining his side and making the reader (me) think about what my stance is.
