6. A Confederacy of Dunces

February 9th, 2010 § 0

I finished this one a bit slower than the other Bluestockings, in part because I knew I couldn’t attend our meeting this month and am trying to race through the Percy Jacksons before the movie comes out (nerd siren sounding loudly) and in part becauseĀ  the book is so downright hilarious and incredibly fun that I wanted to make it last!

As a veteran of homeschooling and a small conservative college, I found Ignatius’ character to be frighteningly but hysterically familiar. Exaggerated, of course, but not unimaginable. The whole book is full of absolutely priceless characters, and the tale is told with a dry wit that doesn’t overtly mock or belittle the characters, but lets them reveal their utter ridiculousness by themselves. I was screaming with laughter.
